Start living instead of doing your life

I honestly can’t remember the last time I raced. It may have been the Women’s Half Marathon in St. Petersburg, Florida back in November, followed by the traditional Thanksgiving morning Turkey Trot in downtown Buffalo. But I don’t think I’ve put on a race number yet in 2012, which is odd for me. But life has taken me in other directions. And that’s just fine. Because the journey isn’t about the finish line, it’s about all the stuff that happens before the finish line.

This Sunday, I’m back at the races. This time it’s the Flower City Half Marathon in Rochester, N.Y. I’ve got my race number, my eye black, my glitter and my post-race pancake place all set. I’ve got my goal in mind, too, which is far, far from running a PR. That’s not what Sunday is about. It’s about doing something I love surrounded by people I love.

Which brings me to the affirmation offered by author and speaker Cheryl Richardson today:

Start “living” your life rather than “doing” your life.
